Choosing the best Samsung Chromebook
We decided to make this list of all of the available best Samsung Chromebooks that you can easily buy right now.
If you want to see a list of all the popular Chromebooks under $200 that’s not limited to only Samsung, check out our best Chromebook buyer’s guide.
This list isn’t really a buyer’s guide, and isn’t a complete list of all Samsung laptops out there, but it’s more of a brief introduction to all the Chromebooks so you can easily glance through them and take a look at which one piques your interest.
We’ve included every single Samsung Chromebook that we could get our hands on, except for the Samsung Chromebook 5. And we even included the basic specs of the system along with any notable features that make it different from Chromebooks on the market.
We also included pricing.
This list is made in no particular order, so just because a Chromebook is at the top of the list doesn’t mean it’s the best Samsung Chromebook you can buy.
So anyway, enough with the talk.
Let’s get on with this listicle!
Samsung Chromebook 2, 11.6-inch, $217
Specs: This machine features an Intel Celeron 2.6 gigahertz processor with 2 gigabytes of RAM. It comes with your standard 16-gigabyte solid-state drive and an 11.6-inch LED screen.
It weighs in at about 2.9lbs and also features Intel HD graphics.
Notable features: Some new notable features are the leather-like cover stitching and it’s slim design. Personally, we didn’t like the leather, but for people who are into that sort of thing, it does give it a very expensive one look. It has a less than 10 second boot time and a 9-hour battery. It also comes pre-loaded with AirDroid premium, Wunderlist Pro, and Little Bridge software.
These are paid apps that you get for free upon purchase. It’s only .66 inches thin and it weighs less than 3 pounds, so it’s easy to transport. It also has a metal frame rather than plastic which is a huge bonus over other Chromebooks. It makes it a lot more durable, slim, and hardy. The keyboard’s also curved, which allows for comfortable and more efficient typing.
And don’t worry, it doesn’t feel “weird” at all. It also comes with advanced Wi-Fi technology, stating that it has the ability to deliver faster wireless speed up to three times faster. It also has integrated Intel HD graphics.
Connectivity: It has a USB 2.0 port and a USB 3.0 port, 1 HDMI port, and a MicroSD slot as well as a headphone input.
Our review: This is a popular Chromebook model and we would definitely recommend this one to someone who’s looking for a reliable and powerful Chromebook.
If you don’t want to do all this research and you just want one of the best Samsung Chromebooks, you can’t go wrong with this model.
Note that this isn’t the newest model of the Samsung Chromebook Series, so just be aware of that. There is a newer, more powerful model out there, and the price is about the same. Not that there’s anything wrong with this model. But for people who want to be up to tech, you might wanna look into the next generation Samsung Chromebook, which we’ll cover in this review guide.
Samsung Chromebook, 11.6-inch, $175
Specs: This is Samsung’s most popular Chromebook model. It sports an 11.6-inch display, Samsung Exynos 5 dual-core processor, 2 gigabytes of RAM, a 16 gigabyte SSD drive, and your option to have 3G or Wi-Fi connectivity.
Notable features: It has the most positive reviews all over the internet, and is probably one of Samsung the most successful laptops. This model is dated however, it was released in 2012 and has been replaced with the Samsung Chromebook 2. This model still continues to sell due to its extreme popularity and reputation.
The processor is slightly slower than today’s CPUs, clocking in at 1.7 gigahertz, however, it’s enough to perform your daily tasks easily. It has a 6.3-hour runtime on a single charge. It weighs in at 2.4 pounds, so it’s extremely light. it also has a built-in webcam, as with all other Chromebooks by default.
Connectivity: 1 USB 2.0 port, 1 USB 3.0, 1 HDMI port, headphone, MicroSD.
Our review: This model runs at $175 and is a very good bang for your buck if you’re new to Chromebooks. If you want something that’s proven and reliable, go for this model.
However, if you can afford it, go for the Samsung Chromebook 2 or 3, as they feature more powerful technology as well as higher performance. However, if performance doesn’t really matter to you and you don’t really care for that sort of thing, then this Chromebook will do just fine.
Samsung Chromebook 3, 11.6 inch, $226
Specs: This is the next model of the Samsung Chromebooks, and it comes in a variation of 2GB or 4GB of RAM, which is something that you couldn’t choose over the previous one. It comes with an Intel Celeron 1.6 gigahertz processor with your standard 16 gigabyte SSD drive. It sports an 11.6-inch screen.
Notable features: It was only 2.5lbs and feels similar to the Samsung Chromebook 2. This is pretty much a carbon copy of the previous one, but you have availability to upgrade the RAM. It’s a little thicker than the Chromebook 2, but it’s barely noticeable.
The biggest advantage is the battery. The previous Chromebook 2 only offered about a 9-hour charge, whereas this one has an 11-hour run. There’s also a curved keyboard just like the Chromebook 2. The screen is also improved because it reclines all the way up to 180 degrees. This is basically where the screen can fold out all the way, so the laptop is flat on the desk.
You also get the AirDroid and Little Bridge apps, as well Intel HD graphics for light gaming, such as playing Angry Birds or watching YouTube videos. The extra RAM is extremely useful for multitasking and running multiple apps.
Connectivity: HDMI, USB 2.0 and 3.0, and MicroSD ports, along with the headphone Port.
Our review: This is a significant improvement over the Samsung Chromebook 2, especially if you go for the upgraded RAM.
The battery and Intel CPU are also a nice improvement. It’s barely any more money for the 2GB variation, so we say get this over the Chromebook 2. We think this is one of best Chromebooks you can buy.
Samsung Series 5 Chromebook, 12.1-inch, $175
This model is one of the more difficult models to find. Don’t be fooled by the name. Just because it’s labeled “5” in the Samsung Chromebook series, doesn’t mean it’s the newest one. This model seems to be dated and we could only find it available refurbished.
Specs: It features a 10.1-inch screen size as well as a 1.66 gigahertz Atom processor. It comes with your standard 2 gigabytes of RAM, and 16-gigabyte solid state drive. It weighs in at 3.3 pounds and comes in silver.
Notable features: It is an Intel-based machine, so it could easily be converted to run Linux OS so you can install apps that you’re familiar with if you’re handy. However, for the typical person who just wants to browse the internet, play some games, and laugh at some cat videos, this will do just fine.
Connectivity: 1 USB 2.0, 1 USB 3.0, HDMI, headphone, and MicroSD.
Our review: We’re not sure why you would go for this model since it seems to be rare, and it seems to be sort of dated in performance. If you want a Chromebook for about the same price, we suggest the Samsung Series 2 or 3 Chromebooks.
Those two seem to be the most reliable and have an excellent reputation as well as much more performance under the hood. The price is about the same as well and you can get a new machine instead of a refurbished one. We’re not sure what to say about the series 5, as we couldn’t really find one ourselves- unless we got a refurbished one.
Samsung Chromebook 2, 13.3-inch laptop, $300
Specs: This Chromebook is an upgraded version of the Samsung Chromebook 2 with a bigger screen. It’s sold at $300, so the price is significantly higher. However, you do get a whole slew of bonuses that the previous model didn’t include.
It comes with a Samsung Exynos 5 OCTA 5802 gigahertz processor, 2 or 4 gigabytes of RAM, the standard 16 gigabyte SSD drive, a 13.3-inch screen (with a low reflection display and full HD). It also features Intel HD integrated graphics for light gaming and video/image processing.
Notable features: There are some upgraded improvements that you can get with this model including image optimization and noise reduction for video communication.
It comes with the free apps, such as the AirDroid premium Wunderlist Pro and Little Bridge apps. This Chromebook weighs in at only 3.06 pounds and is only 0.65 inches thin. It also has that textured leather cover stitching along the edge, as well as the curved keyboard for more efficient and comfortable typing.
The battery lasts about 8.5 hours on this machine. It also comes with some free goodies Google provides, such as 100GB storage on Google Drive as well as some music free trials and some free Wi-Fi certificates for using your Chromebook up in the air, although this isn’t exclusive to this model.
Our review: It’s well worth the price if you can afford it. The double RAM is a very nice upgrade because you can multi-task and have multiple apps running simultaneously without any slow down. The larger screen size is a bonus within itself. You can appreciate the additional 1.7 inches when you’re watching videos.
It also has a higher resolution to go along with the larger screen, so you can watch videos and view images in crisp, clear HD. If you decide to go with a Samsung 2, we have a recommendation that you look at this model. In fact, on traditional Windows laptop, all these extra features would more than double the price. However, on this Chromebook, it’s a very good bang for your buck.
Samsung Pro and Plus
The Samsung Pro and Plus are the newest Samsung models of 2017. They’ve come a long way compared to the other models on this list. You should check them out here.
What’s the best Samsung Chromebook?
After reading this list, what do you think?
We’d go with the Samsung 2 or 3 series, as those seemed to have the best mix of performance, price, and hardware. The previous models didn’t impress us too much, especially with the weaker CPUs. If you have the money, we suggest buying the 4GB variations since the RAM upgrade is well worth. If you can’t afford it, go for the 2GB version.
The Samsung Chromebook 2 and 3 both have options- whether it be RAM or screen size, or both.
The best Samsung Chromebook is really what you find to be the best. It depends on what you want and your budget that you’re willing to spend. Do your research and choose. Maybe make a list of what you want in your Chromebook, and see which model offers it at the best price. That would be our suggestion.
Well, that concludes our list of the best Samsung Chromebooks. Once again, this list isn’t inclusive of all the Chromebooks Samsung makes- it only includes the most popular models. Hopefully, this gives you an idea of what Samsung Chromebook to buy out of the many options. This list was made based on reviews, sales, and price data from all over the web- from resources such as amazon.com, ebay.com, and many, many articles. We scoured the web for the best Samsung Chromebook models, and this is the list we came up with. We hope it helps your buying decision.
