Hi all.
For months I’d been having terrible times both trying to get this 4 yr old HP Chromebook to both open w/correct screen (Should be: blank page W/box in mid to enter password, then desk top appears, then google page).. Mine instead kept going to white page W/blue border forcing me to re sign in U name and P word..
I’d done now 2-3 ‘powerwashes’ but it still was wrong (leave alone having to now re-register W/Twitter/others)…
Other situ was being unable for some 15 Min. every day attempting to log in to Cafe’s WiFi..Kept saying “this network can not be reached, or “out of range”.. This all went on for months !!!
Yesterday I decided to take it to Geek Squad at Best Buy.. All he could tell me is, yup,……. “do a powerwash” !
So, I did P-wash AGAIN, there at BBuy..AND: WALLAH, device became completely working normal again !! I was almost going to buy a new computer before that !
This leads me to conclude that, because WiFi situ was poor at Cafe, perhaps having done the PWash >at< BBuy, made all the difference !!!
I end with a question to Andy Z, or anyone knowledgeable, IS, WiFi involved in the process of powerwash ? I.E. Was my doing PW it AT BBuy, because I was on THEIR WiFi, enable this recovery success ? IS WiFi even involved when doing a P wash ?

I’ve done everything you said. To begin with my computer wouldn’t start, I was able to factory reset it and it was put in recovery mode. I downloaded the chrome OS recovery image and put the USB in my computer. It downloaded and told me to take out when i did it said it would restart. It just started to blink a brighter black and off like that for a long time. Battery is fine , lights work the computer isn’t even a month old

I have the error message “chrome os is missing or damaged. Please remove all devices and start recovery” when i power up my chromebook, seeing as I can’t get to the login screen which stops me doing a powerwash I have downloaded the chrome recovery app on another chromebook. I created a recovery file on an sd card using the recovery app, used ctrl +refresh +power buttons and followed instructions, inserted recovery sd card and all seemed well, message comes up saying recovery is complete, please remove sd card and your chromebook will restart. When I remove the sd card the chromebook tries to restart but I just get the original error of “chrome os missing or damaged etc”
Why wont the chromebook restart when it has told me recovery was successful?? please help.

If you sign into a personal account as well as your school account on an administrated chromebook, is it better to powerwash using the personal account, not the school account?
